About Us

Our Mission

We seek to serve those in our community affected by memory loss due to dementia by offering: respite, socialization, counseling, education, and information.

Memory Makers is a non-profit community resource dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals living with memory loss and offering vital support to their caregivers. Our program provides a safe, stimulating, and compassionate environment while offering caregivers time to rest and recharge.

Memory Makers is an adult day respite program designed for individuals in the early to middle stages of memory loss, such as Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. As a program of Day Respite Services of Oxford, we are overseen by a volunteer board of directors and supported by local partners and volunteers.

What We Offer

Our structured, social model offers daily programming that focuses on:

  • Light exercise and movement
  • Music and dance sessions
  • Arts, crafts, and hands-on projects
  • Brain-stimulating games and puzzles
  • Peer-to-peer socialization
  • Interactions with student volunteers and community entertainers

Each day begins with a light snack and casual conversation, followed by a variety of activities that encourage movement, connection, and joy. A lunch is enjoyed together — participants bring a sandwich, while the community donates soup and dessert.

Meet our Staff

Bernadette Davis – Program Director

Bernadette Davis, Certification in Office Assistant, Licensing & Ordination in Theology.

Hello! I am Bernadette Davis, I am a native of Chicago, IL but currently reside in Oxford, Mississippi. I am a graduate of Northwest Community College and Eagles International Training Institute in Frisco, Texas. I obtained my certification in Office Assistant at Northwest Community College and my licensing and ordination in Theology from Eagles International Training Institute.

For 27 years I had the pleasure of working for the University of Mississippi “Ole Miss.” However, in the last two years, I wanted to see how I could better serve our Oxford community. What could I bring to this community to make a change or just help. Faithfully I served the campus community with love, passion, warmth and acceptance and now it is time to give that same energy back into our Oxford community. When the opportunity to work at Memory Makers was presented, I knew then, this was a great opportunity for me to give back.
