Individuals who are in the early or middle stages of Alzheimer’s or dementia are appropriate for the group as long as they are able to enjoy the group and participate in the activities. Sometimes participants do not initiate conversation; however, they are able to sing the songs and enjoy the socialization and other activities. Participants have to be reasonably mobile and continent. Staff or volunteers accompany participants to assist with walking and in the restroom as needed. The restrooms are handicap accessible.
Participants must pass a routine physical examination and be free from TB. People who no longer engage in activities, want to sleep or wander would not be appropriate for the group.
We can provide respite care for up to 12 participants per day.
The fees will be determined after the participant is accepted into the program. Partial or full fee waivers are available providing proof of need is properly established.
No, the facility is used only for the day program, staff administrative activities, training of staff and volunteers, educational meetings, hosting fund raising activities, and meetings of the officers and directors.
Participants bring a sandwich for lunch and this is supplemented at no extra charge with beverages, soups, desserts, etc. During our morning socialization time beverages and snacks are provided.
An initial assessment is performed to assess potential participants; an interview with their caregivers is also performed. Before the assessment the caregiver fills out a questionnaire describing the participant’s functional level. A Mental Status Exam is administered to the participant, and the participant is observed to assess whether they are appropriate for the group and to help them feel more comfortable about joining Memory Makers. A physician must certify that the individual is medically appropriate for the program. Memory Makers is a social program, therefore, we do not administer any medications.
We are open Monday thru Thursday, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. We believe that these are the best hours for participants to be active and benefit from the program.
